Brand New for 2009 the Essex PGA Portugese Pro/Am Championship
will be played on two beautiful courses on the Algarve. The courses
of Quinta de Cima and Quinta de Ria are our choice for this brand
new event. Already rated among Portugal’s best, the Ria Course
is located on the cliffs over the most beautiful inlet of the Ria
Formosa and is not long but has well-defended greens. The Cima design
is more difficult with ditches, lakes and streams to content with.
Target golf is the name of the game!
We shall be staying in the Vila Gale Hotel in the quaint fishing
village of Tavira. The golf courses are located eight miles drive
from the hotel. The hotel is classed as four star. Located approximately
one hour from Faro Airport in the town of Tavira our hotel has 268
rooms each with balcony and modern facilities. The hotel offers
buffet dining and a grill with the Alibabar and Poolside Bar catering
for drinks. As well as a good size outdoor pool (although this may
be a bit chilly at this time of year!) there is also a heated indoor
pool and Jacuzzi. Locally there are a number of restaurants, churches
and historical sights for those who want a little bit of culture
as well as the golf!! A welcome cocktail party would be held on
the first night.
We anticipate an early morning flight from Stansted to Faro, arriving
mid morning. A Mondeo Estate (or equivalent) is included for each
team of four. Arrival in the resort will be around lunch time and
an optional practice round on either golf course will be available
for those who wish. Thursday will see us on Quinta de Cima for the
first round of the Championship, the second round on Friday will
be at Quinta de Ria. On Saturday, we will be back on Quinta de Cima
for the all important final round.
Lunch will be served at the clubhouse and will conclude with prize
giving. Then. back to the hotel to check out and the drive back
to Faro Airport for the evening flight home.
The flight back to Stansted will be at approximately 8.00pm, arriving
back in the UK at 10.45pm.
Our Portugese Championship will be played over 54 holes, two rounds
on the Quinta de Cima and one round on Quinta de Ria
So, to recap, all players will be staying at thes 4* Vila Gale
Hotel in Tavira. The cost includes return air fare to Faro from
Stansted (Golf Club Carriage is included), Car Hire based on a Mondeo
Estate or equivalent for each team of four, Welcome Cocktail Party,
three rounds of golf as described, final day lunch and prize giving.
